The McKinney-Vento Act for Homeless Children and Youth Grant provided to the Kokomo School Corporation by the Indiana Department of Education allows Kokomo Schools officials to transport students housed at local shelters, hotels, and motels. Families, who are doubled-up in living quarters due to life circumstances, also are eligible for transportation services.
The grant also provides case management services after students have been identified with local agencies and/or families to provide make-up work when necessary.
School corporation officials cannot help students until they have been identified as homeless within the guidelines of the McKinney-Vento Act. If you feel a student deserves to receive these services, you may contact the Office of the Director of Social and Student Services at 455-8000.
